How to Convert Standard Notation to Solfege

Steps:

  1. Find Key Signature
  2. Whichever Major Key you are in that note is “Doh”.  For example, if there is 1 sharp it means you are in G-major therefore G note is “Doh”.  If you are dealing with a song that is in minor, such as e-minor “Doh” will still be a G note because G-major and E-minor are relative keys and have the same key signature.
  3. Now you should know where “Doh” is
  4. All your notes are now relative.  Music in standard notation looks as they sound.  This means that higher note on the staff is higher in pitch.  Therefore all your notes will be relative from where you start.
